Jennifer has been suffering from frequent life-threatening blood infections for the last 35 years. She has an extremely rare immunodeficiency disease called MonoMAC with peripheral lymphedema caused by a genetic disorder in the GATA2 gene. Reports show that there are currently only around 30 patients in the world with this diagnosis. Since it is so rare there is not an established diagnosis code for insurance and therefore Jennifer and her family need to raise at least $250,000 in order for her to get a potentially life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Leslee is a full-time artist whose work is a true expression of her love for the colors and beauty in nature. However, last October a visit to the doctor’s office caused her life to change drastically. She had been experiencing extremely painful headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, and severe bruising. Blood work revealed that she had Philadelphia acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph + ALL) and would need to travel across the country to receive a bone marrow transplant. Her brother was a perfect match and she is now 100% donor DNA. She hopes to be able to return home to her family, friends, and two cats very soon.

At only seven months old Jayvin was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML). This type of leukemia is extremely rare and the only known cure is a stem cell transplant. Jayvin underwent his transplant at eight months old; if he does not relapse he will be considered cured by the year 2013. Until that time he will continue to receive treatment to maintain his health. Jayvin’s immune system is still compromised, so his mother is unable to work while she cares for him during recovery. His family is in need of assistance with their expenses, especially transportation to and from the treatment center.

Hailey was diagnosed with Hurler syndrome when she was just one and a half years old. She received a bone marrow transplant in March of 2011 and has since developed a chronic anemia similar to Evans syndrome when her bone marrow stopped producing red blood cells. She has received rabbit and horse ATG to treat the disorder. Due to the strenuous nature of treatment, Hailey's mom has not been able to work. Tim was first diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in 2003 and was on chemotherapy for nine years. He eventually became resistant to it and would need a bone marrow transplant. Tim’s brother was a 100% match and he underwent the transplant this past Valentine’s Day. Tim and his wife of over 26 years have struggled with cancer costs for almost a decade. Medical bills, travel expenses, and lodging near the medical center have placed a financial burden on the family. Arianna is a four year old girl who was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in December of 2010. She underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and recently had a stem cell transplant. Arianna loves riding her bike, dressing up, and swimming in the summer. She lives with her nine year old sister Bre and their mother, who could use assistance with transportation and caregiver expenses.

In the summer of 2011, Donna was diagnosed with primary amyloidosis, a rare form of bone marrow cancer. Up until August of 2011, Donna had pushed herself to continue working, but when she was hospitalized with the disease, she knew she could no longer keep it up. As a result of her illness, Donna and her husband had to turn their family business over to their children. This has resulted in a loss of their income and concern over affording medical and living expenses during and after her stem cell transplant.

Ronnie, a 58 year old married father of three, was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia and Philadelphia chromosome (Ph+CML) in April of 2010. Due to treatment, he and his wife are both currently out of work on medical leave. Ronnie underwent a stem cell transplant this past March and his wife is serving as his caregiver. Ronnie has a lengthy recovery ahead of him and he and his family are in great financial need to cover all of their expenses.

High school senior, Jose Juan, is in need of a life saving bone marrow transplant to treat his aplastic anemia. Fortunately, his brother is a match and he is scheduled to undergo the transplant in April. Jose Juan is uninsured, but has been accepted to a transplant center that will help cover his medical costs provided he can cover the necessary outside expenses. Financial assistance is needed for housing, meals, and transportation during his transplant and follow-up treatment.

David was initially diagnosed with testicular cancer in March of 2011, and after several months of remission, the cancer returned in December of 2011. His doctors believe his best chance at a cure is a triple-tandem autologous transplant, which will be the first one performed at the hospital. David feels he is in the hands of an excellent team of professionals, but the stem cell harvesting, the chemotherapy, and the three back-to-back hospitalizations will create a large financial hardship.

Monica is a 30 year old single mother of a beautiful nine year old daughter. She was first diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in February 2011 and was treated with six rounds of chemotherapy. In July she found out the cancer had returned and now she must undergo another course of chemotherapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant. Monica, who has always worked hard to provide for her daughter, is finding it very difficult to take care of their needs during her lengthy treatment. She would greatly benefit from any donations that could be made to help with their increasing expenses.

Juwuan, the youngest boy of seven siblings, is ten years old and preparing for a bone marrow transplant. In November of 2011, he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), and since then, he has been hospitalized continuously. As a fifth grade, honor roll student, Juwuan’s favorite subjects are math and science. He also enjoys playing football and competing in wrestling tournaments. Aside from school and sports, he loves to spend time with his family, friends, and two dogs, Lady and Solo. Juwuan and his family would benefit from financial assistance for his medical expenses so that they can focus on getting him healthy and back to his favorite activities.

In February 2010, one month after giving birth to her second child, Lajla was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She has spent many months in the hospital receiving chemotherapy and radiation. She also has undergone two bone marrow transplants; one in November of 2010 and one in December of 2011. During these two difficult years she has stayed positive and confident that God will carry her through. As a former newscaster and attorney, 36 year old Barbara relished challenges, but nothing prepared her for the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that came on Mother’s Day 2010. Barbara started chemotherapy four months after the birth of her third son. She soon relapsed and needed to move from Hawaii to Seattle in order to undergo a stem cell transplant. Her donor was her father and Barbara is appreciative “he gave her the gift of life twice.” Though still battling side effects from the transplant, Barbara is looking forward to a reunion with her husband and her three young sons. The family would appreciate help with post-treatment expenses.

Lynda, a loving and active grandmother, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in August of 2010. In order to receive treatment she had give up her job as church secretary, a position she held for 20 years. Her work providing foster care for abandoned and/or abused rat terriers was also interrupted. Lynda underwent chemotherapy and received a bone marrow transplant over 250 miles away from her home. The expenses associated with the transplant, relocation, and continued medical needs are taking a toll on Lynda. Her insurance reached its lifetime cap and she is now without coverage and in need of financial support.

Only three weeks after the birth of his first child, Salvador was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Since then life has been a whirlwind of six rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Salvador’s family is struggling to meet the needs of the cost of cancer care, which includes medical bills, transportation, and necessary lodging near the transplant center. Salvador’s greatest hope and motivation is to live to see his son grow up and to be with his family.

Barry was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in January of 2010. After completing chemotherapy and radiation therapy he went into remission, but relapsed soon after. Due to his treatment, Barry was forced to retire and is now struggling to afford his medical care. Doctors are recommending a bone marrow transplant, but until Barry obtains funding for the necessary post-treatment care he is unable to proceed with the transplant.

At the age of three, Jude was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor, a type of kidney cancer that occurs in children. Over the last three years he has dealt with multiple surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and a stem cell transplant. Jude is now six years old and has finally been discharged from the hospital. The last three years have been very emotionally and financially difficult on the family. Jude has three siblings and his parents have been doing their best to cover living expenses, but they are still struggling and would benefit greatly from some assistance.

Shana has been battling chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) all of her life. CGD is a life-threatening immune deficiency disorder and the only cure is a bone marrow transplant. Shana and her family have needed to move six hours from their home in order for her to receive treatment. They will need to remain close to the hospital for six months to a year. This is causing major financial issues for the family. Any donations would greatly help them relieve the financial stress they are currently experiencing.

Stuart, a 48 year old husband and father of three, was diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) in August of 2010. After several medical complications and four months in the hospital, Stuart received a bone marrow transplant in May of 2011. He now has at least another year before he will be able to return to work, which is causing serious financial strain on the family. They are in need of help with their daily living expenses.

Gabriel was first diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in February of 2010. Since that time he has dealt with many complications due to treatment; heart failure, iron overload, chemotherapies, and multiple surgeries and procedures. This past summer Gabriel relapsed and was not responding to treatment. He was given a research drug that has enabled him to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Sandra has been fighting mantle cell lymphoma for almost three years. Prior to her diagnosis she worked hard to raise her four children alone and also opened her home to three homeless children. Sadly, her lengthy battle with cancer has caused her to lose her job, her home, and her retirement fund. Sandra still has 18 months of treatment left and the financial burden it has placed on her has become very stressful. She needs assistance with transportation and living expenses.

Russell, a decorated Vietnam veteran, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in June of 2010. In order to treat his ALL he underwent chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. This treatment period was a very difficult time for Russell and his wife. They have been struggling financially with the burden of all of their medical bills and living expenses. Although they are in need of financial assistance, Russell continues to help others, just as he did in Vietnam. He works with organizations to provide trophies to children undergoing chemotherapy. He recognized how tough it was as an adult and imagined it is that much harder for a child.

Mabel, a 75 year old grandmother, spent fifteen years caring for her husband who was a quadriplegic. Eight months after he passed away, Mabel was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Due to the financial demands of her husband’s condition she was left with very little for the additional costs of her cancer treatments. Mabel has undergone a stem cell transplant and is doing well, but she continues to struggle with the expenses of her ongoing treatment.

Oscar is currently fighting a diagnosis of recurrent mantle cell lymphoma. He is in the process of searching for a match for a stem cell transplant. The family is hoping that Oscar’s brother will be a match, but if he is they will have to incur a large expense in order to transport his brother for the stem cell donation. Oscar is also going to need to pay for three months of lodging near the treatment facility. He is in need of assistance with these considerable expenses which are necessary for treatment.

Josh was a sixteen year old high school sophomore when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in February of 2011. His cancer was very aggressive and he was only given a 40% chance of survival. Thankfully, Josh made it through several rounds of intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. From the beginning Josh decided that he did not want his AML to bring anybody down, he was not going to sit around crying about it, and he was going to beat it with laughter. He has done just that and is now at home recovering with his family, but they could use assistance with all the medical expenses they have accrued during his lengthy treatment.

Sherry uses the phrase “I’m not through yet” in order to describe her five year battle with follicular lymphoma. After multiple chemotherapy treatments she went into remission three different times, but once again it has returned and this time she will undergo a stem cell transplant. Sherry has three sons, five grandchildren, and a husband that have been of great support to her. Unfortunately, the costs of traveling long distances for treatment and medical expenses have been nearly too much to bear. Sherry and her family are extremely appreciative of any financial help as she prepares for her transplant journey.

Christopher was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a group of blood and bone marrow disorders, and he underwent a cord blood transplant in June. His wife accompanied him to the transplant center to be his caregiver, while their three children remained at home. Sandra was a music teacher, but has been unable to work due to treatment. Pam, a special education teacher, was diagnosed with stage III multiple myeloma in December of 2010. She had to undergo radiation and chemotherapy, as well as two back surgeries to correct the damage the cancer caused to her vertebrae. Pam spent six months in the hospital and was unable to walk independently for five months. She is now displaced from her home once again while she receives a stem cell transplant. Pam is in need of assistance with her living expenses.

Roy was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2003. After receiving chemotherapy and radiation, he went into remission, but in 2009 he relapsed. Roy then underwent salvage chemotherapy followed by an autologous stem cell transplant in 2010. Unfortunately, this past May, Roy relapsed again, and is now preparing for an allogeneic transplant later this year. His sister is a 100% match and will be his donor. In order to afford his continued treatment, Roy needs help with his insurance premiums.

In May of 2008, Eddie was diagnosed with Hunter syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that is always progressive and life limiting. Eddie and his mother needed to relocate so that Eddie could have an unrelated cord blood transplant and a second chance at life. Thomas was first diagnosed with lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin’s disease in 1989. For over twenty years he has undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Unfortunately in 2008 the cancer progressed to stage four and began taking over major systems in his body. Thomas has needed to undergo more chemotherapy in order to prepare his body for a bone marrow transplant. After dealing with this diagnosis for so many years he is in need of financial assistance to help cover post-transplant treatment expenses.

Since he was four months old, Joshua has been fighting a diagnosis of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). He received an allogeneic stem cell transplant weeks before his first birthday. In order to treat HLH, Joshua and his single mother had to relocate. If he survives until 2014, he will be considered 100% cured. Until that time, he will have three years of intensive treatment. Joshua and his mother need help paying for medical assistance devices, medications, and living expenses.

Sofia is an eleven-year-old girl who was born with sickle cell anemia, a debilitating blood disease that causes chronic pain, fatigue, serious infection, and can lead to organ damage. Christopher is focusing on getting well and back to being a working father, but in the meantime he needs help with the increasing medical expenses surrounding his transplant.

Nile, the youngest of triplets, was diagnosed with sickle cell disease when he was three weeks old. He was thirteen months old when his journey of pain crisis and multiple hospitalizations began. As he continued to grow the disease got more difficult to manage and doctors suggested a bone marrow transplant. His brothers were not a match, but they were able to find an unrelated donor. Currently his family needs help with his transplant treatment expenses.

Earlier this year Sandra was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). She immediately began receiving three rounds of chemotherapy. Following his transplant he was diagnosed with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), causing liver and intestinal problems, and he must take sixteen different medications each day. He is one of six children to a single mother. His illness has been extremely financially and emotionally difficult for the entire family and they need help covering his treatment expenses.

In December of 2010 Scott was diagnosed with plasma cell leukemia (PCL), an aggressive, rare cancer involving plasma cells in the blood. Scott, a newly married IT professional, has since endured two rounds of chemotherapy, both with great success. Once the chemotherapy is completed, Scott will need two transplants. The first transplant is an autologous stem cell transplant, and the second one is an allogeneic stem cell transplant. Scott and his wife need help covering the donor search expenses.

Steve dreamt of becoming an artist, and in order to pursue that goal he took two part-time jobs. Unfortunately this left him with no health insurance, which made his 2010 diagnosis of Philadelphia positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (PH+ALL) that much more difficult. At just six weeks old Alex was diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), an extremely rare disease of the blood and bone marrow that is always fatal if not identified early and treated aggressively. In order to survive, Alex underwent seventeen weeks of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. However, Alex is having serious complications that require continual intensive care. His medical expenses have caused a financial hardship for his family and they need assistance affording his continued medical care.

In order to fight chronic lymphocytic leukemia and small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL-SLL), Rick underwent additional chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Twelve-year-old Rileigh was diagnosed with immunosuppressive aplastic anemia in June 2010. Late last year her blood count numbers crashed and it was discovered that she also has Fanconi’s anemia. Rileigh underwent her transplant this past May and her family relocated to be near the transplant center. Once in remission, Sandra can undergo a bone marrow transplant, which will be donated by her daughter. Giovanni is a four-year-old boy who was first diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in April of 2009 and had a relapse in February of 2011. It has been a rough road for him and his family as they’ve faced many complications with his treatment. He is currently recovering from a cord blood transplant. In July of 2010, Aval was diagnosed with testicular cancer in stage IIIB. Since conventional chemotherapy treatment did not bring his tumor markers down, he underwent a tandem autologous stem cell transplant. As a result of the lengthy treatment process, Aval was unable to work and was terminated from his job. His hope is to find another job with his Computer Science Engineering degree and rebuild his life. He is in need of assistance paying for housing, transportation, and meals.
