Russell, a decorated Vietnam veteran, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in June of 2010. In order to treat his ALL he underwent chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. This treatment period was a very difficult time for Russell and his wife. They have been struggling financially with the burden of all of their medical bills and living expenses. Although they are in need of financial assistance, Russell continues to help others, just as he did in Vietnam. He works with organizations to provide trophies to children undergoing chemotherapy. He recognized how tough it was as an adult and imagined it is that much harder for a child.
