Alaina was born eight weeks premature on December 6, 2012 and weighed only four pounds. When she was supposed to be discharged from the hospital her parents received terrifying news; Alaina was diagnosed with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) and later diagnosed with cartilage-hair hypoplasia. A bone marrow transplant was her only treatment option and this past March she underwent a cord blood transplant. Alaina and her family are still in the hospital and expect to remain there for at least two more months. They have been back and forth to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, but it will all be worth it if they can bring their little girl home.
