Luc was born with sickle cell disease, a genetic blood disorder. His family was informed that he could receive a bone marrow transplant in order to cure him of the disease. He received a bone marrow transplant in May of 2013. The transplant failed and he had to have a 2nd transplant. Luc’s family was told to expect 6 to 8 weeks in the hospital for recovery. Luc spent 11 months in the hospital and is still recovering. Luc’s mother, who is his full-time caregiver, has been unable to return to work. His family is having a difficult time meeting their medical and living expenses.
