Dear Friends and Family, My name is Jesus Casado, I am 25 years old and originally from Caracas, Venezuela. I was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL) in August of 2011 at age 21 while I was completing my undergraduate studies at Arizona State University (ASU). Luckily, the aggressive cancer treatment did not stop me from continuing my work as a social activist and volunteer for different non-profit and non-governmental organizations. I was also able to successfully graduate with two B.A. degrees in Political Science and International Studies in 2013. I recently moved to New York with a full tuition grant for a M.S. program in Global Affairs at the prestigious New York University. However, in November of last year, 2014, I was diagnosed with a Leukemia relapse in my central nervous system at NYU Langone where I began a chemotherapy and radiation protocol until last month. Unfortunately, no related donor match was found in the national donor registry and timing is now urgent with my disease spreading to my optical nerve and brain. Fortunately, a cord blood match was found and I will be admitted for my transplant on August 6, 2015 and expected to be in the hospital for 5-7 weeks requiring a caretaker (my mother) 24 hours a day. I am grateful that my mom is here to be by my side because I need her presence more than ever. This is my cure and second chance at life and I need everyone's support to get through this difficult journey. Because of the current political and economic crisis in Venezuela and the currency exchange, my mother (as of August 4th, 2015) is unable to obtain U.S dollars at the legal rate* ($1 = 6.35 Bolivares) from the Venezuelan government in order to provide me with the necessary financial support. My mom will be staying in the hospital room with me because we currently have no availability to afford housing. This is why I am asking my family, friends and the community at large for your support during these difficult times for me and my family. Any support through donations and/or sharing my story would be deeply appreciated. Any contribution counts…Thank you so much… Sincerely, JC
