About
In 1956 the first bone marrow transplant was performed by E. Donnell Thomas in Cooperstown, New York. The first successful bone marrow transplant was performed by Dr. Robert Good for a patient with severe combined immunodeficiency syndrome. From a rarely performed procedure, now more than 10,000 transplants are performed yearly in the United States as treatment for more than 70 life-threatening illnesses including cancers, genetic disorders, and other diseases.
This symposium will focus on hematopoietic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) transplantation from different sources as first line treatment for a variety of malignant or non malignant disorders. Speakers will discuss bridging initial treatment to transplant, barriers to transplantation and current advances in the field.
