About
After a bone marrow or Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) transplant, individuals face many challenges. It may take an individual several months for the blood cells to regenerate and up to two years before their immune system is fully functional. Up until this point, the patient will continue to be at an increased risk for infection, and for allogeneic patients Graft Vs Host Disease. One commonly overlooked obstacle during and post transplantation is understanding how diet affects the gut bacteria and the role of nutrition in outcomes after transplant.
This symposium will focus on the nutritional approaches adopted by hematopoietic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) transplantation (HSCT) centers, the nutritional impact on Graft vs Host Disease (GVHD), and oral considerations prior to transplant. We will also be discussing the neutropenic diet and how microbiome impacts nutritional care.
Guest speakers from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center will join us to discuss these topics.
