Faye Phillips

 

Eight years ago, at age 54, Inita (Faye) suddenly began feeling nauseous and her bones hurt all over. A bone marrow biopsy revealed that she had multiple myeloma. In October 2014, doctors told Faye that she would need a Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) transplant. After a few months of preparation including taking medication and receiving injections, she received her transplant on February 4, 2015 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Six days before she was to be sent home from the hospital, Faye took a turn for the worse and became incoherent and disoriented. Luckily, she recovered after five days and is now doing great, although she still tires easily. Faye’s husband Karl and her son Lee have been her caregivers from the beginning of her transplant journey.
This has been an especially difficult time for the family, as Karl is struggling with multiple sclerosis, which he was diagnosed with in 2011. Lee has moved in with Faye and Karl in order to help take care of both of them.
Faye’s hobbies are sewing, shopping and spending time with her family, including her two sisters and two brothers who live nearby. She and her family can use financial assistance for groceries and transportation, as well as co-pays for medical insurance and prescriptions. In order to assist with these mounting expenses, Faye has teamed up with the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation to open a One-to-One Fund on her behalf. Any contributions are greatly appreciated.
