Hailey

Hailey is seven-year-old girl who is ever-smiling and enjoys being with her family, whom she loves so much. She enjoys dancing, singing, and loves animals.
Hailey had a significant history with her kidneys. After a visit with a kidney specialist in February 2014, she was found to have abnormally low blood counts. Hailey was immediately sent for testing which found that her bone marrow was not working properly. The initial bone marrow biopsy, which was intended to test for leukemia, revealed that she did not have leukemia, but a rare syndrome called Fanconi Anemia. The biopsy also revealed that her bone marrow had totally given up and was failing.
After diagnosis, Hailey began platelet transfusions and was shortly thereafter admitted for radiation and chemotherapy. Hailey was treated with an allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) transplant in July 2014. Immediately after transplant, Hailey fell ill to an adenovirus, which most often causes respiratory infection. She is currently making a slow recovery and is taking medications for nutrition.
This is a surreal experience for Hailey and her family. Hailey’s mother had to stop working to become Hailey’s full-time caregiver. Her father unfortunately lost his job due to the many days of work he has missed in order to be by his family’s side.
Hailey and her family are anticipating a discharge to return home soon and will be in need of medical supplies. They will need to have their air vents cleaned and have filters installed in their home in order to avoid risk of infection until Hailey’s immune system recovers. Until her discharge, Hailey’s family will also need assistance with gas money to travel to and from the hospital approximately an hour and fifteen minutes each way. Additionally, the family is struggling to pay Hailey’s astronomical medical bills.
