Julie Mueller – a seamstress, bibliophile, fishing enthusiast, loving dog rescuer, and wonderful mother of one daughter and one Corgi – was recently diagnosed with stage III multiple myeloma, an incurable, but treatable, form of bone cancer.
For several years, Julie had been tolerating a sore leg, but in 2010 the pain became unbearable and she decided to go to the doctor. An MRI revealed a sizable tumor, which surgery and a bone marrow biopsy confirmed was multiple myeloma.
After the diagnosis, Julie immediately began radiation and chemotherapy. She pushed herself to continue working, but once she was hospitalized, she knew she could no longer keep it up. As a result of her illness, Julie’s focus must remain on treatment and recovery, which has resulted in a loss of income and concern over affording medical and living expenses.
In order to put her multiple myeloma into remission, Julie is preparing to undergo a Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) transplant. This will be a very long process, both physically and financially, but she and her family are doing their best to remain positive. In order to help with the financial concerns, they have decided to turn to the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation to set up a special One-to-One Fund to collect donations on her behalf.
