I wanted to share a little medical update.

It’s been a while.

🩷💚🩵

I had some bad scans recently that showed progression. For me, that means the tumors in my liver are no longer responding to the medication I’m on, so we pivot and try something different.

My scan in June showed progression, and unfortunately, my most recent scan last week showed progression again. So, in just a few months, we’ve had to make two medication changes because the treatments stopped working for me.

Metastatic breast cancer means the cancer has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. Treatment is ongoing, and unfortunately, progression can happen along the way. My amazing medical team at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center are working hard to figure out what will work best for me. All during an insurance change week and made it happen.

Bethany, my friend and MBC patient, described this process so well. “We just date our drugs, we don’t have to marry them!” They seem like a good fit, and sometimes you realize pretty quickly that they just aren’t the right one. Right now, I’m on Datroway, and I’m really hoping this relationship lasts a while. 💗

Then there’s the histoplasmosis. I’ve been dealing with disseminated histoplasmosis for almost a year now. It has taken a really long time to feel better from it, and honestly, it has been a lot. Thankfully, it’s currently under control, but I’m still continuing treatment. I’m finally starting to feel more like myself after such a long stretch of being so sick. Thank you to Vanderbilt for saving my life!

The good news is that I feel great right now, and I’m healthy enough to continue treatment. I’m so grateful for that.

I’m also learning to accept more help from my family and friends, which is not always easy for this independent girl. But I’m incredibly thankful to have people who are there when I need them.

There are still a lot of unknowns, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared about what may come. But I’m trying to take it one day at a time and focus on what is good right now, while still letting myself feel all the feelings associated with a scary diagnosis.

Thank you to everyone who continues to love me, support me, check on me, and walk alongside me through all of this. It means more than I can put into words.

Big HUGS and so much LOVE
