Sofia Moreno

To our dear family, friends, and wider community,

My name is Jeanette Hernandez and my husband is Eddie Moreno. Our little girl, Sofia, has relapsed (in August 2025) from B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Sofia was first diagnosed in May 2024 and while in her treatment maintenance, she came back positive on CNS. Since then, she has recently completed CART T treatment and part of the recovery is staying within 30-minutes of the hospital for 100 days in isolation away from our home. Sofia is my oldest of three, and only 7 years old and she has been faced with struggles no child should endure.

Currently, our family is divided geographically: Eddie is back home in Phelan, CA with our 5 and 3 year olds, working tirelessly to support our family; I am with Sofia navigating treatment at Loma Linda and the physical and emotional toll it is having on her. No parent should have to watch their child navigate this kind of pain. The mental drain and yearn for my whole family to be together soon is hard to put into words.

I have created this page as a way for you: our beloved friends, family and wider community to know how you can offer support at this time. Small or large donations make a huge difference as our medical costs are exhaustive. Your donation will help us with gas, to and from the hospital, stay close to the hospital once Sofia is discharged, and keeping our heads above water.

Sofia is my baby. She is brave and strong. Even though she cannot be in school right now, it is amazing how knowledgeable she has become about her care and medical terminology. My dream is to see her back to school one day and that everything can be back to normal soon.

Me llamo Jeanette Hernández y mi esposo es Eddie Moreno. Nuestra pequeña Sofía sufrió una recaída (en agosto de 2025) de leucemia linfoblástica aguda de células B. Sofía fue diagnosticada por primera vez en mayo de 2024 y, durante su tratamiento de mantenimiento, dio positivo en la prueba del SNC. Recientemente completó el tratamiento con células T CAR-T y parte de su recuperación consiste en permanecer a menos de 30 minutos del hospital durante 100 días, aislada de nuestro hogar. Sofía es mi hija mayor de tres hermanos, tiene solo 7 años y ha enfrentado dificultades que ningún niño debería sufrir.

Actualmente, nuestra familia está separada geográficamente: Eddie está en casa, en Phelan, California, con nuestros hijos de 5 y 3 años, trabajando incansablemente para mantener a nuestra familia; yo estoy con Sofía, acompañándola en su tratamiento en Loma Linda y afrontando el desgaste físico y emocional que esto le está causando. Ningún padre debería tener que ver a su hijo sufrir este tipo de dolor. El desgaste emocional y el anhelo de que toda mi familia esté junta pronto es difícil de expresar con palabras.

He creado esta página para que ustedes, nuestros queridos amigos, familiares y toda la comunidad, sepan cómo pueden apoyarnos en este momento. Sofía es mi niña. Es valiente y fuerte. Aunque ahora no puede ir a la escuela, es increíble lo mucho que ha aprendido sobre su cuidado y la terminología médica. Mi sueño es verla de vuelta en la escuela algún día y que todo vuelva a la normalidad pronto.
