Hi Family and Friends,
I’m facing a serious challenge.
Many of you know, I’m a heart attack survivor, and I’ve been through a series of seizures. In 2023, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s ALCL (which stands for A Large Cell Lymphoma). It’s ALK-Negative. In 2023 I went through treatment, which included ten radiation sessions, six rounds of CHOP chemotherapy and ultimately beat the cancer. I was in remission for almost two years.
Last month, during one of my routine PET scans, my doctors found something that needed to be investigated. A biopsy confirmed that the cancer had returned, this time in my right underarm area. The first time, it was in my right hip area.
I’ve recently had a bone biopsy and had a port inserted to prepare for chemo treatment which started on Monday, August 10th. I’m currently being treated at Wilma Chan Highland Hospital in Oakland, California.
My current treatment plan includes six rounds of BV Monotherapy, with a planned completion date of November 23, 2026.
Once the scheduled six rounds of chemotherapy is completed, the next step in the treatment plan is a stem cell transplant. The current expectation is that I will spend approximately 30 days in the hospital at UC San Francisco followed by about 90 days of recovery at home.
So, we’re getting ready.
I’m creating this page through the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation to keep everyone updated on what’s happening and to give those who want to support us a way to do that.
All donations are tax-deductible and go toward:
- Non-insurance covered medical expenses
- Outlying expenses for the upcoming stem cell transplant
- Miscellaneous expenses
Financial support will also help us manage the practical side of this process while I focus on treatment and recovery.
Support doesn’t always mean money.
If you simply want to send some positive energy and prayer our way, we appreciate that too.
I’m at the beginning of this next round of treatment, so I know there is a lot ahead.
My approach is pretty simple: stay positive and keep God first.
I’ve always believed that being positive is half the battle, and that’s where my head is right now.
I’m surrounded by family, friends, doctors, nurses, healthcare providers and a lot of people who care about me. That makes a difference.
A little about me. I was raised in Oakland, California. My Mom was a single Mom and I have a Step Mom, three younger sisters, a younger brother, Uncles and Aunts that influenced me significantly.
Cheryl (my wife) and I have a blended family with four adult children between us (three daughters and a son). They’re all doing extremely well, and we’re very proud of them.
This is where things stand right now.
I’m taking treatment one round at a time, staying positive, and focusing on what I can control.
We’ll use this page (check my journal) to keep you updated as things progress. There will be good days, challenging days, and probably some things we won’t know until we get there.
GOD got this!
Thank you for being here, for following along, and for whatever support you’re able to give.
We are very appreciative for the prayers, love, support and connection.
I’ll keep you posted!
