Hi dear friends and family. While I’m grateful that the reconstruction was moderate and not severe, recovery is a journey. Blood was flowing out my nose non-stop through both nostrils all afternoon and evening. When it became clear that it would not stop on its own and I began to feel like I was choking, the resident on the floor recognized that something needed to be done. Unfortunately, he was alone and had never done the procedure before. His “senior” was at another hospital on an emergency. His hands were shaking and I was encouraging him that he could do it, because it didn’t seem there were any other options. I felt really frightened as I didn’t want him to undo or damage any of the reconstruction. It took at least an hour and a half but they got my nose fully packed. The senior resident acknowledged that the process is “torture” but alternative fixes would feel worse. I’ll take his word for it. When they left, I had a good cry, got cleaned up and actually slept. I’m in a decent amount of pain but I’m keeping up with the pain meds. My dear friend Kathy is here with me today. I walked around the hall and, the greatest miracle of all, I’m able to talk. It hurts to do it too much but I can do it!! Thank you again for all of your love and support. I’m sending love to each of you! Susan
