Hello my name is Chanel D. & I'm from NJ.... back around December of 2018 I was feeling a little under the weather but didn't think too much of it, I just I was coming down with a cold. So I'm just taking things over the counter & going on my everyday activities but not getting any better. So January roll around, then February come & I'm still feeling a mess. At this point I was really feeling bad as if I couldn't breathe, I couldn't do too much of anything. So I finally go to the hospital & the run so much blood work. After about 3 hours I was getting nervous because I haven't heard any news yet about what exactly could be wrong. Then finally the doctor come & tell me the me red & white count is extremely low & I need to be admitted now. It was shocking because I didn't know how to process what was being said to me. So as I'm in the hospital, im getting bags of blood, iron, & platelets... After about 3 weeks I diagnosed with Acute Leukemia. I kind of felt a relief because I finally found what was wrong with me but also scary because I didn't know what was the steps from there. I get transferred to a cancer hospital for 2 months in New Brunswick NJ getting chemo treatment. By this time, of course I had to stop working & move back home with my mom. I appreciate how supportive, understanding, & loving she was. Also my boyfriend have been my side everyday without a question.

After spending those 2 months there, I was able to come home but still waiting to get a bone marrow transplant. In the meantime I transferred to the John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack NJ & they made everything so much easier for me. They broke down all the steps, where do we as far as finding me a donor. Time go on & August 17, 2019 I received my bone marrow transplant. I was so excited for this miracle to happen. Currently Im going on my check ups, still on meds, taking 1 day at a time to a full recovery.
