Trifusion insertion

By on

This morning I had my trifusion line inserted and my PICC line removed. I had the PICC line for 5 months. I was told to arrive at 8:30 so I could be on the table at 9:30. No food after midnight and nothing to drink after 7am.

The appointment to have the trifusion inserted did not go quite as planned as the nurse I had wanted to cancel it based on my platelets being at 15 yesterday BEFORE I received a unit of platelets, and 20 is the minimum for the procedure. I had to insist that they check my platelets again, since the point of getting platelets yesterday was to make sure we could do the procedure today. I thought they would be running labs before the procedure anyway, as that should be standard practice and what every other procedure I've had has included.

After the nurse begrudgingly ran the labs, my platelet count was at 34 and we could move forward with the procedure. Thanks to all this, it was about 11:30 before I was finally on the table, noon before it was done (and I could finally eat and drink) and about 1pm before we could leave.

It was a very frustrating experience, but we got through the day. The trifusion is pretty painful in my neck, but hopefully should feel better in a couple days.

Goodness gracious Chelsey!!! Can’t believe it was almost delayed. You are your best advocate. Good job being persistent and getting it done!!! Many prayers for you. ❤️❤️❤️
