My name is Roselore Laurent, my friends and family called me Rose for short. I'm 44 and recently diagnosed with LCH. After suffering for a year from a series of unexplained illnesses, starting with blood clots, sinus Tachycardia, AFib, 2 days in induced comas, unexplained strokes, TIA, seizures, fatigue, shortness of breath, then tumors in my mouth which biopsied results revealed Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. A very rare blood cancer that affect 1 or 2 adults in a million per year in the world. At last The mystery is solved! This diagnosis has been a relief for me, because at one point last year some doctors almost made me believe that I was crazy. They even diagnosed me with anxiety and conversion disorder when they ran all tests and they can't find out why all these things were happening to me. I was hospitalized twice, had a stroke during a heart stress test at age 43. I had multiple visits to the ER due to grand mal seizures, recurring DVTs if I forget to take my blood thinner for a day or two. The doctor told me that I probably have LCH my whole life and it was dormant and something has triggered it and now it's flaring up. Come to think of it, growing up I was known to be a very sick child, I didn't walk until I was 3, I had skin rashes, and sores or wounds in my legs that were appearing out of nowhere and were hard to heal. I remember when I was about 9 years old 2 wounds showed up on my left leg and they kept growing and growing. My aunty tried some home remedies nothing work, she had to take me to the hospital for it. I remember spending a day at the hospital when I finally saw a doctor, he taught it was a cut and sent me to the nurse to have it stitched and banded, and gave me a prescription for some antibiotics. Then at 22, after a series of severe migraines and earache the ENT specialists found a tumor in my left ear which was growing fast and had to be removed immediately which left me deaf in that ear now. For the triggering part, I think COVID-19 is the culprit, you see LCH is an autoimmune disease and any viral infection can trigger it. The Oncologist said that I have to be in chemo for 12 months as part of the treatment of LCH and continue monitoring for five years to see if the disease stay in remission. On May 22nd 2023 I started the first round of chemo. As of today, 3 rounds down, nine more to go. Before cancer turned my life upside down I was a healthy mother, wife, and worker. I enjoyed raising my two beautiful daughters, cooking spending time and making beautiful memories with them. Now, I at 44, my 12 year old has to sometime make me some food when my oldest and my husband are at work, it's depressing to say the least.
