We are embarking on uncharted territory-tests and trials, some in and out of the US- and that will come with high out of pocket costs.  I appreciate every donation as it enables us to accomplish our goal of healing JoJo!!  He's such an amazing kid and deserves only good things.  We love him so so much ❤️❤️❤️

Update October 2024:

I write this with uncontrollable tears flowing down my face. The trial didn't work and scans today show even more spread.  JoJo was on this new trial for about 6 weeks and it was very hard on him. He had nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of energy, lost 10 pounds due to loss of appetite, and most recently got so sick that he couldn't keep anything down. Decision was made to discontinue the trial because of it's ineffectiveness. Here we are without many options but we are going to likely try a drug that's never been tried on DSRCT but has shown great results in other cancers. We're also pursuing some other trials and tests that hopefully will give us some promising options in the future. Not all costs are covered and we would need to travel for some of these trials and tests. We would really appreciate donations to help cover these costs. Most importantly (!) PLEASE keep praying!!  Thank you so much!!

Update August 2024:

My worst nightmare is coming true-recent scans showed that not only did the tumors in his chest/lungs grow, but now there are growths in new areas.  What is now means is that the cancer is incurable according to his doctor.  No treatment that we have tried until now has been effective, and there are not that many clinical trials available that would be suitable for him.  We are not giving up!  He is starting a new trial in a couple weeks and there are some promising drugs still awaiting approval that he can hopefully get in the coming months.  We have some potential trials that are still experimental and will therefore involve high out of pocket costs and will not be covered by insurance.  All we need is a treatment that will be effective at stopping the spread and stabilizing/shrinking the existing tumors.  Please continue to daven/pray for a full recovery- Hashem (G-d) is the one who rules the world and has the power to heal him!!

Update June 2024:

My heart is broken. The most recent scans showed that the cancer has most likely spread to his chest/lungs.  This is not what we wanted to see in the first set of scans after radiation with only a 4 month break of him not getting chemo (he had surgery, then a recovery break, then radiation, then a recovery break before these scans.)  DSRCT is SO aggressive and they do not have a proven effective treatment.  We are trying a new drug for two cycles and then will repeat scans to gauge if it worked.  We are doubling down on prayers and I\'m also working on finding clinical trials and alternative specialists who can help figure out how to kill every last malignant cell in JoJo\'s body!  I really appreciate every donation- especially since I have no steady source of income at this point.

Background:

In May 2023, My amazing, smart, handsome 13-year old son Joseph (JoJo) was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive form of cancer - DESMOPLASTIC SMALL ROUND CELL TUMOR (DSRCT). He is currently undergoing an aggressive treatment protocol at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. In the past year, he has gone through multiple high dose chemotherapy cycles, major surgeries, radiation, and many hospital stays.   During his 15+ hour surgeries, the surgeons removed whole organs and portions of others, along with hundreds of tumors.  The poor kid had an ileostomy for months which was reversed in February 2024 Thank G-d/BH!  Recovery from every chemo cycle and surgery were very tough but JoJo is such a great kid- he bounces back to his personable self almost as soon as he is feeling better!

I am a single mom of two, who is unable to continue working full time, while serving as JoJo\'s primary caretaker. This fundraiser will allow JoJo\'s father and myself to focus on JoJo\'s care while he is going through this difficult journey to recovery (IYH). Funds will go towards living expenses,  medical costs, travel expenses, child care costs for Jordan (JoJo\'s 9 year old brother,) and other expenses.

JoJo is a strong kid who is facing his challenges with a great attitude, even though sometimes he goes through a significant amount of pain and discomfort.  He recently celebrated his Bar Mitzvah-it was a beautiful event attended by family and many friends.
