Reaching out to a Community of Support

Week of 2/12

By on

This week was, in short, disappointing. I had my pre-transplant bone marrow biopsy on Tuesday—which went surprisingly well—so much smoother than my last one. Right after my procedure, I received a red blood cell and platelet transfusion to make sure my blood levels were at safe and stable levels and that went well. That evening, I began experiencing weird GI symptoms, and Fred Hutch advised me to return at 8pm to make sure I wasn’t having a reaction to the blood products I received earlier that afternoon.

When they were able to rule out a reaction, they tested me for Covid just to be safe. Surprise, surprise…it came back positive, which came as a shock to me.

Unfortunately because Covid is a virus, my transplant has been pushed back by 2 weeks to allow time for my body to completely heal prior to chemotherapy. A lot of my appointments were canceled or moved to telemedicine visits for the remainder of the week.

I had to return to Fred Hutch on Saturday for labs and received a red blood cell transfusion along with platelets.

Fortunately given everything going on with my body and the immunocompromised state that I’m in, my body still fought hard for me and was able to kill off the Covid virus and I am feeling much better now!

My new dates are set and I will get my Hickman line placed 3/8, admit to the hospital 3/11, and my transplant date will be 3/19.

I am grateful for the few extra weeks so that I can be at home with my husband and fur babies! Somedays I feel very ready to conquer this and other days I feel completely overwhelmed with what’s about to happen. Either way my life is changing in big ways and ready or not—it’s happening.

Thank you for the continued support and love, it sure gives me the confidence and strength to keep going!
