Update from Ryan:

Hi everybody,

The past 2 days has been a whirlwind of struggle and emotions. On Tuesday morning, I started having severe abdominal pain. It continued to get worse as the day went along. I was able to coach Asher's last baseball game, but the pain started to spread to my lower back and hips. Brooke ended up taking me to the ER at 1am Wednesday morning due to the pain making it so I couldn't sleep.

During our 7 hour ER stay, the doctors were concerned for another blood clot or possibly an infection somewhere. My blood work came back showing I had a very low white blood cell count, so this kind of ruled out infection, but they also said it may just not have hit my white blood count yet. I also had a CT scan to get a better look at what was going on. We were in for quite the shock when the doctor gave us the results of the first reading of the CT scan. He said that the scan showed my cancer had come back/metastasized to my pancreas. WHAT THE HELL!! HOW WAS THIS HAPPENING?! After I freaked out, Brooke calmed me down by saying this just didn't make any sense and to wait for the final reading by the staff physician. She really is amazing!

On the way to get pain meds from the pharmacy, the official CT results came back through MyChart and they were confirmed by a phone call from an oncologist that there was NO CANCER/METASTASIS!!!! Oh My God! How that gets so messed up by doctors/radiologist/whoever and then delivers that news to a patient is dumbfounding and horrible. I am still angry about this. Our emotions over this time were obviously so low and so high. Adding to that, of course, was my pain and also very bad nausea, which made Wednesday morning one of the worst mornings I have had in quite some time.

I was able to sleep almost all day Wednesday after coming home and slept well last night. The doctors still aren't sure what is causing my pain, but I have a routine PET/CT to check out how the radiation worked on my liver next week, so this may help to provide some additional answers. For now, the pain meds are keeping me relatively pain free, and we will see if we can get more answers next week.
