Update from Ryan:

Hi everybody, I wanted to give an update on what has been going on lately in my fight against cancer.

Back in June I started and finished radiation. The radiation I had was a very high beam dose, and I was able to complete it in three rounds. This was done to target the remaining spot on my liver and is called localized, or targeted, therapy. Thanks to my integrative oncologist and the supplements they prescribed, my side effects were minimal. The worst of it was laying still with my arms above my head while being in a MRI machine for over 90 minutes getting the radiation. My shoulders and hips were killing me!

I started back with chemo again today. The information we received from the specialists out East was that we needed to get better systemic control before starting my maintenance treatment. This means I need better control for the cancer floating around in my blood. Chemotherapy is the best way to tackle this and the goal is to get my tumor marker down to a better level so the maintenance drug can work more effectively.

The tentative plan now is to have four more doses of chemotherapy through the month of July. I will have labs and scans at the beginning of August and see my oncologist again in mid-August to determine next steps. Depending on the labs, we may ask for more chemo, or things may look good and I will begin the maintenance pill Olaparib. This is a specific drug that will target my BRCA mutation and stop the bad cells from developing and causing more cancer.

Thank you for all of your support and love!
