Reaching out to a Community of Support

Welcome to Edward’s Carelines page! Thank you for coming to support Edward in his journey of recovery. Here you can:

Back in May of 2024, Ed found out he broke a rib. It was assumed it happened at work but he could not figure out how. Then his blood work came back as being anemic. His primary doctor thought since there was an unexplained broken rib and anemia, she should send him for further bloodwork. He had a certain protein that indicated there was a further problem.

We went to see an oncologist/hematologist who did further blood work and a bone marrow biopsy and his diagnosis is Multiple Myeloma (MM). After having a PET scan done it was found there were 3 broken ribs and other bone lesions (which weakens the bones). There is no cure for MM but there is treatment. He went through 4 cycles of treatment, will undergo injections at home, strong chemo and travel to the cancer center daily for them to withdraw his healthy HCT. Then the next big step is a Bone Marrow Transplant (SCT) and will be hospitalized for up to 2 weeks. He will be out of work for at least a couple of months, if not longer. He will not be able to care for himself for an unknown length of time so I will also be taking time off of work as his caregiver. During this time he will not have an immune system at all. There is a great risk of infections. We need help to do this transplant financially and the risk of further hospitalizations is also possible. We are also very worried about being able to pay all of our monthly bills, such as mortgage, Cobra payments, oil for heat & hot water, electric, food and the list goes on. I am creating this at the suggestion of Hackensack Hospital and his cancer team. Any help, support and prayers would be greatly appreciated. This is truely a fight for his life!
