What is CancerBuddy?

CancerBuddy is a free peer support smartphone app for iOS and Android devices that helps patients, survivors, and caregivers find resources, emotional support, medical information, and a new community of peers going through similar experiences within their cancer hospital, city, or state.

CancerBuddy provides a user-friendly digital experience to help people affected by cancer across the US find buddies to share similar experiences, resources, educational information, emotional support, and a supportive community. It’s a great way for people to connect by diagnosis, treatment, side effects, age, interests, hospital and geographical location. CancerBuddy also offers hospital systems, cancer advocacy groups and cancer influencers a trusted platform to engage with their community and share resources. This initiative will make the experience of dealing with cancer a little less lonely for patients, caregivers, and survivors.

Yes, CancerBuddy is a free app.

Who is CancerBuddy for?

CancerBuddy is for anyone impacted by cancer, whether they are a patient, survivor, or caregiver to someone with cancer. CancerBuddy provides a community of support and referral to resources from people who understand what you are going through.

CancerBuddy is a particularly helpful tool for AYA who make up a minority of the cancer population, making it more difficult to find and connect without the help of technology.

What are the safety features on CancerBuddy?
  • CancerBuddy uses self-identify and user-report to notify app administrators of any inappropriate behavior.
  • Flagged users are reviewed by moderators and dealt with on a case by case basis.
  • Terms of use clearly state that individuals should not consider information exchanged between patients to be taken as medical advice.
  • Information from the group hosts and subject matter experts have all been vetted for accuracy.
  • CancerBuddy is NOT a mentorship program, we are a peer to peer community that provides access to professional resources and information.
What's the difference between Facebook groups & CancerBuddy?

CancerBuddy does not save or share any private information provided by individual users.

Can I access the app on a laptop or computer?

CancerBuddy is available on the Apple App Store for iOS devices and on the Android Google Store for Android devices.

Can I access the app if I don’t live in the United States?

Currently, CancerBuddy is only available in the United States.

Can I access the app in Spanish? Or other languages?

Currently, CancerBuddy only exists in English.

CancerBuddy is the first peer support network connecting cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers to each other, as well as connecting them to corresponding support groups. Users match via age, diagnosis, treatment plan, hospital, or geographical location.

Our fundraising + social platform helps patients connect with family and friends to share updates and photos, and accept donations for cancer-related expenses. All contributions to Carelines are tax-deductible and do not affect the patient’s medical insurance and benefits.

The Lifeline Fund

While insurance covers many costs of transplant treatment, there are many other unexpected expenses that can be a burden to those patients and their families. The Lifeline Fund is a transplant patient financial assistance program that helps cover some of the costs of medications, child care services, medical equipment, transportation, housing, cord-blood banking, compatibility testing and more.

For patients and caregivers navigating cancer treatment and support, there are endless questions. The BMCF connects patients with a team of doctors, nurses and social workers to answer them. Ask the Expert allows queries to be asked and answered anonymously via our website portal.

Clinical Care Counseling

To provide the emotional support needed during cancer and transplant treatment, we offer patients and their families confidential ten 25-minute phone or Zoom sessions, with licensed therapists.
