Anna Fiorilli
A few months ago, Anna Fiorilli was a vibrant young woman living an active life. She enjoyed her work as a receptionist in a busy dental office and twelve-hour days were no challenge for her. She had no idea that she would soon be confronting a serious bone marrow disorder that has since overcome her life. On August 17, Anna was diagnosed with Myeloproliferative Neoplasm with Fibrosis. This condition is rare and malignant. It is curable by a bone marrow/Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT) transplant only.
Anna’s condition has the possibility of transforming into Acute Leukemia which would increase the medical complications of her transplant. Unfortunately, she was not an HLA match with her brother and is now waiting to find an unrelated donor.
Anna is challenged by extreme fatigue and has become reliant on blood transfusions. She continues to work on a part time basis, but will soon leave her job to undergo her transplant. Although her medical insurance covers a substantial amount, she has many expenses which are not covered by insurance or disability benefits. It is expected that Anna will be out of work for at least 12 months and her family has come to realize that their assistance alone will not be adequate in meeting Anna’s financial needs.
To help Anna with her transplant expenses, her family has turned to the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation to set up this special One-to-One Fund to collect donations on her behalf. Contributions will go directly to assist her in managing insurance premiums, medical copayments, out of pocket prescription drug costs, transportation expenses and after transplant home care.
