Marcel Colina
Marcel Colina was born in February of 2008. His family was overjoyed with this healthy baby, the first boy in many generations. That joy quickly turned to despair when he was diagnosed at the age of two with a malignant brain tumor.
Marcel is a very sweet boy that loves to spend time with his family. His mother, Melyn, describes him as an amazing child who loves fishing, horses, and baseball. However, his favorite activity is playing with his little sister.
Since his diagnosis Marcel has undergone six cycles of chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, and is now getting ready for radiation therapy. Marcel’s radiation treatments are adding extra emotional and financial stress on the family. Marcel and Melyn will need to relocate from their home in Miami, Florida to Jacksonville, Florida for six weeks while he undergoes treatment. It is going to be extremely hard for Marcel to be far from home, his little sister, and the rest of the family.
There also is the risk that the radiation treatment could affect Marcel’s hearing, sight, intelligence, growth, and fertility. Marcel’s mother acknowledges that the treatment for cancer is sometimes as aggressive as the disease, but despite the risk she feels very glad that this treatment is available. With God’s help she is positive that everything is going to be okay.
Marcel has been a true inspiration to everyone that knows him and is referred to as “The Miracle Boy”. Despite his disease, treatment, and prognosis, he has always been a strong little man with a great attitude and a huge desire to live.
In order to offset the expenses associated with Marcel’s treatment the family has teamed with the Bone Marrow & Cancer Foundation to set up a special One-to-One Fund to collect donations on his behalf. Please consider helping with the financial aspect so that Marcel’s family can focus their attention on his recovery.
